Hi We're running Exchange 2007 SP2. I see on Mailboxes there is the function to 'disable MAPI'. Does this disable MAPI on that mailbox only, or any mailbox that the user accesses as part of their profile? Let me give an example - my primary mailbox is ChuckP, I also have access to ITHelpdesk and EMailHelpdesk mailboxes in my Outlook profile. If someone was to disable MAPI on my ChuckP mailbox, which is my primary, would I still be able to access the ITHelpdesk and EmailHelpdesk mailboxes that were part of that same profile? And, how is Blackberry affected by all this? Would this affect the ability of the BES to access my mailbox via MAPI? Client is Outlook 2007 SP2.

If you're referring to a setting on a mailbox, then it would apply to that mailbox only. However, if your profile is configured to open your primary mailbox, with the others being secondaries, if you were to disable MAPI on your primary mailbox, Outlook would fail opening it and I believe you'd never get to the secondary mailboxes because the session would close. BES uses both Web Services and MAPI. Crowley is right. By default, POP3 service and IMAP4 service are installed when you install the Client Access server role. The service is responsible for responding to a MAPI client. If you disable MAPI on one mailbox user, he will can’t built connection with MAPI service. But he can use other protocols built connection with exchange server and access outlook profile.
